Marvin’s question about Agnosticism

Dali's Agnostic symbolA gentleman named Marvin used our contact form to ask a question that should have been answered before he could ask it. His actual question is as follows:

Hi. Do I have to be an atheist to submit my works here? I am actually an agnostic but I sometimes wonder and speculate the non-existence of God. Somehow, I am an adherent of atheistic existentialism by Nietzche.

As the fellow that should have arranged to answer this question in advance, I answered as follows:

Marvin-

Somehow, I have not done my job. πŸ™‚

I, too, sometimes wonder about the existence of a superior being that could qualify for god-hood, all the while knowing that I would not be able to recognize such a species if I saw one. I sincerely doubt that aphids would recognize humans as gods, even if they were intellectually able. I imagine they just see us as big.

I have been actively pondering these questions for a very long time, and the answers that I get are much more in favor of no god rather than in favor of an extant god. What I know for sure is that I do not believe in the old white-bearded miscreant mirage in the sky, or in that sort of heaven or hell. In practical terms, that makes me an atheist. I think, though, until I have a lot more answers than I have right now, you may feel free to label me an agnostic of sorts.

And, by the way, Nietzche rocks. πŸ™‚

The Eloquent Atheist

I will go about setting the record straight about the Eloquent Atheist’s stance relative to Agnostics as early as tomorrow afternoon. Until then, this post will have to suffice.
