Much progress has been made on making it possible for you to comment on Eloquent Atheist content. We have installed code and selected options that will allow users to join the site as members, and to thereafter log into the site to leave comments about all content thereon. We have tried hard to make the process as easy as possible while still allowing good site security. All current authors and subscribers will be receiving an email soon giving you the necessary details.
A new page has been coded and will soon be added to the top-line menu. That page will allow members of the public to join the site and therefore to comment on our content. All site members, new and old, are advised to read and consider Ground Rules for the Eloquent Atheist. Anyone using the comment mechanism to try to circumvent those ground rules will be unceremoniously ejected from the site, and banned from future entry.
Joining the site, whether past or future, or having published material on the site also adds you to an email list that notifies you of new content as it is posted. This should not be too onerous, but if a couple of emails per day are too much for you, you will be able to opt out of the email list just by asking via the Contact form. This will not have any effect on your ability to comment on site content, which will continue unabated. Comments, too, are optional. If you do not wish to comment, simply don’t log in.
There remains only the matter of a large number of emails to current members and writers, the publication of the new Subscribe / Comments page, and the flicking of a few virtual switches. That will be completed tomorrow or Monday and we’ll see how the system works. Speaking for our group of excellent authors, I believe they may be interested in some feedback from our members, and also that our members may welcome some interaction with the authors.
